Brisbane Airport to Lennox Head by private car
Lennox Head is 195 km from Brisbane Airport, and we plan the drive at 135 to 150 minutes. The fare starts at $429 in the Lexus ES300h sedan for up to three passengers, or $545 in the Mercedes V Class or Executive Vito Tourer for up to seven. Those are from prices, per car and not per person, and they include tolls, airport fees and GST.

Where Lennox Head actually is
Lennox Head is a seaside village in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, inside the Ballina Shire local government area and sitting between Byron Bay and Ballina. It is not on the Tweed coast and it is not in Tweed Shire, worth saying plainly, because the two coasts get muddled. Wikipedia puts the village 11 km from Ballina and 20 km from Byron Bay. Ballina Shire's tourism site calls it "a leisurely (and very scenic) 10 minute drive north of Ballina"; Destination NSW describes it as "Just a 15 minute drive from Byron Bay". The 2021 census recorded 7,483 people, about seven and a half thousand, a village rather than a city, and that shapes how a transfer into it works.
The drive
South of Brisbane the run is motorway for the great majority of its length. North of Brunswick Heads the freeway has been gazetted and signposted as the Pacific Motorway since February 2013; south of there the signs revert to the Pacific Highway. If the road appears to change its name under you, you are not lost.
The only road tunnel in this part of northern New South Wales is the twin tube tunnel under St Helena Hill, on the 17 km Tintenbar to Ewingsdale section completed on 18 December 2015 at a 110 km/h limit. That section sits north of the Lennox Head turn off, so coming down from Brisbane you pass through it shortly before we leave the motorway.
The turn off itself is at Tintenbar, about 12 km north west of Ballina, where an entrance and exit is provided near the old Ross Lane entrance. From there the last stretch is local road, and we plan for it rather than treating it as an afterthought. Ross Lane is the main road link west out of Lennox Head; Ballina Shire Council calls it "an important connection between Lennox Head, Ballina, Tintenbar, Alstonville, Wollongbar and Lismore" and an important emergency evacuation and detour road, carrying roughly 8,400 vehicles a day.
Two things about Ross Lane are worth knowing. It floods at Deadmans Creek and closes during heavy rainfall; Council is raising it to about 1.45 metres AHD with a new single span bridge built to a 20% AEP standard, while saying frankly that it "is not possible to completely eliminate flooding at this location". And more immediately, Ross Lane is closed for approximately nine weeks from 19 October 2026, reopening 18 December 2026, for the $4.35 million Deadmans Creek flood resilience works. If your transfer falls in that window, your driver already knows and routes around it.
Why a booked private car suits this trip
There is no passenger rail option. The last XPT train left Murwillumbah station on 15 May 2004, ending 110 years of rail transport in the region, and the line ran inland through Casino, Lismore, Bangalow, Byron Bay and Mullumbimby, it never served Lennox Head. Two sections of the corridor are now the Northern Rivers Rail Trail: a shared path, not a railway waiting to reopen.
The nearest airport is Ballina Byron Gateway, 5 km from the Ballina CBD in Southern Cross Drive, served by Jetstar, QantasLink and Virgin Australia to Sydney and Melbourne only. Arriving internationally, or from anywhere other than those two cities, Brisbane is usually where you land, and this is the drive that follows.
Self driving is an option, but parking in the village is tight. Ballina Shire Council states that "Parking is in high demand in the CBD areas of Ballina, Lennox Head and Alstonville", with timed restrictions in the town centres and officers patrolling on foot and by vehicle using automatic number plate recognition, including on weekends. Being set down at the door, bags carried in, avoids the whole question, and the car is private and never shared, with the fare agreed before you leave.
Pickup at the terminal

For the drop off, give us the address you are actually staying at. Reflections Lennox Head, on the corner of Ross Street and Pacific Parade, is a common arrival point, the beach is 100 m away and patrolled during summer, and the park runs cabins, glamping tents, tiny homes and campsites. Village addresses work just as well, and drivers know the named venues along the strip, the Lennox Hotel, Shelter, Baraka, Jekyll & Hyde, William St Kitchen & Bar, Chido Cantina, Rhea Food & Wine, Quattro Lennox.
If you want a stop, Pat Morton Lookout sits on Lennox Point, five minutes' drive from the village, with a carpark, public toilets and views up Seven Mile Beach; whales pass between May and October and the headland's 65 m cliff is where hang gliders launch. Ask when you book, so the time is in the job.
Families and the free fitted child seats
Fitted child seats are free on every transfer, for every seat that needs one, not hired, not an extra line on the invoice, and fitted by the driver rather than handed to you in a box at the kerb. Tell us the ages and we bring the right seats. That matters more on a run of this length than on a short hop. The sedan takes up to three passengers; the V Class and the Vito Tourer take up to seven, with the luggage room to match prams, boards and a week's worth of bags. Two things families ask about. The southern end of Seven Mile Beach near the Lennox Head Surf Club is patrolled; Lennox Point and Boulder Beach are not, and Sharpes, Shelly and Lighthouse beaches are patrolled in school holidays. And Lake Ainsworth, the freshwater lake beside the village, looks brown from the tannins of the surrounding tea trees, Ballina Shire Council samples it for blue green algae generally weekly between October and April and posts a Green, Amber or Red status, and at Red "Water should NOT be used for primary recreation."

How long does the transfer take?
We plan 135 to 150 minutes for the 195 km, a planned window rather than a promise about traffic, which is why we track the flight.
Is the price per person?
No. From $429 for the sedan and from $545 for the seven seater are per car, and both are from prices, the final fare depends on the address, the timing and any stops. Four adults in a V Class pay one fare, not four.
Can we get a train or a bus instead?
There is no train. Passenger rail in the Northern Rivers ended in 2004 and part of the corridor is now a rail trail. The region's bus operator is Northern Rivers Buslines, but nothing in its published town route index runs from Brisbane Airport, and we will not quote you a Lennox Head route we cannot verify. For an airport arrival with luggage, a booked car is the practical answer.
What if my flight is delayed?

Do you charge for child seats?
No. Fitted child seats are free on every transfer. Give us the ages when you book so the right seats are already in the car.
Can you take us back to Brisbane Airport afterwards?
Yes. A Lennox Head pickup that finishes at a Queensland airport is a trip we are licensed to run. What we cannot do is a New South Wales pickup that also ends in New South Wales, so a Lennox Head to Ballina or Byron Bay run is not one we can take.
