Gold Coast Airport to Pottsville
Pottsville sits about 30 km south of Gold Coast Airport, and the drive takes 24 to 30 minutes. The trip crosses a state line. Gold Coast Airport is in Queensland; Pottsville is in New South Wales, in Tweed Shire, postcode 2489. The route
The whole first stretch is motorway. The Pacific Motorway runs 158 km from Brisbane to Brunswick Heads and crosses the state border at Tweed Heads, so the Queensland,New South Wales change happens at speed and without ceremony. South of the border it carries on past the Tweed towns until the exit for Pottsville.
That exit is the Cudgera Creek Road interchange, a diamond interchange signposted for Cudgera Creek, Pottsville and Hastings Point. From there the last few kilometres are local roads into the village, and we plan for that final stretch rather than treating the trip as motorway all the way.
Two separate approaches lead into town, and they are not interchangeable. Tweed Coast Road is the road through Pottsville, meeting Coronation Avenue in the village; south of the village it continues through Wooyung to Tweed Valley Way. The other is Overall Drive, which serves the Black Rocks side of town, crossing Blackrocks Bridge and connecting to Philip Street and Coronation Avenue. If your accommodation is on the Black Rocks or Koala Beach side, the driver comes in on Overall Drive, not through the village centre. Koala Beach estate, between Pottsville and Hastings Point, also carries a 40 km/h limit throughout, set so wildlife can cross safely, 270 hectares of it is reserved bushland and dogs and cats are not permitted there.
Why a booked car, rather than working it out on arrival
There is no train. The last XPT left Murwillumbah on 15 May 2004, ending 110 years of rail in the region, and the line from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek was formally closed on 23 September 2020. The old corridor is now the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, 24 km from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek since 1 March 2023, pleasant for a day out, no use with luggage at 9pm.
Public transport into Pottsville is Surfside Buslines route 603, listed as Pottsville to Tweed Mall via Tweed Valley Hospital. It is a suburban bus route, not an airport connection.
That leaves a car. Pottsville had 7,209 residents at the 2021 Census, up from 245 in 1971, a town that grew into a holiday destination fairly recently. Arriving somewhere that size at the end of a flight, with bags and possibly children, is what a booked fare is for: the price is agreed before you leave home and the car is already allocated.
The pickup
We track your flight, so the pickup time moves with the aircraft rather than with the schedule you booked against. Free waiting is 60 minutes on international arrivals and 45 minutes on domestic, which covers the usual baggage and border wait.
Drop offs go to the door. Tweed Holiday Parks Pottsville South is at 2 Tweed Coast Road, beside Mooball Creek and a short walk from the beach and the village shops. Pottsville North is at 27 Tweed Coast Road, around 200 metres from the beach, with two fenced swimming pools, a playground, a basketball court and a volleyball court. The two are easy to confuse when booking, so give us the street number and we will take you to the right one. Private addresses are the same: a holiday rental, a relative's house, or a restaurant such as Pipit at 8 Coronation Avenue.
Families, and the free fitted child seats

A family of four pays one seven seat fare, not four separate ones.
Two things worth knowing before you plan a swim day. Pottsville Beach is a gazetted beach, but it is not one of the shire's club beaches, Tweed Shire's four surf life saving clubs are Salt SLSC, Fingal Rovers SLSC at Fingal Head, Cabarita Beach SLSC and Cudgen Headland SLSC at Kingscliff. And the mouth of Mooball Creek can close over completely with sand and cut the tidal flow; in October 2018 Tweed Shire Council advised against swimming in the creek while it was blocked, so check current council advice rather than assuming the creek is always fine.
South of the village, Tweed Coast Road runs through Wooyung Nature Reserve: 87 hectares of coastal land bisected by the road, taking in about 2.5 km of Mooball Beach and Wooyung Beach.
Two dates that change the roads
Pottsville Beach Markets run on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month in Philip Street, which changes parking and traffic in the village centre. And the Pottsville Beach Triathlon is on 24 and 25 October 2026: on the Saturday, Tweed Coast Road from Coronation Avenue through Wooyung to Tweed Valley Way is fully closed from 6.00am to 1.30pm, Overall Drive is restricted from 6.00am to 5.30pm, and traffic between Overall Drive and Coronation Avenue is detoured via Anne Street. Is Tweed Coast Road affected by roadworks?
Tweed Shire Council is widening 6.1 km of Tweed Coast Road to four lanes, from Morton Street at Chinderah to Grand Parade at Casuarina, with priority sections scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026 and run about 18 months. That section is well north of Pottsville and is not on the motorway route this transfer uses, it only matters if you ask for the coastal road instead. Council has also decided the widened road will not be raised above flood level, because raising it would push flood levels up elsewhere, so that stretch stays flood liable.
