Cabarita Beach is a short run from Gold Coast Airport: about 24 km door to door, usually 20 to 26 minutes. You land in Queensland, at the terminal in Bilinga, and you finish in New South Wales, on a thin strip of beach side land east of Tweed Coast Road. A Queensland pickup with a New South Wales drop off is a trip we are licensed to do.

The route
You come off the airport precinct, cross the border, and take the motorway or the coast road depending on what is moving. The M1's Yelgun to Chinderah section, opened on 4 August 2002, has only three grade separated interchanges across its 28.5 km, Cudgera Creek Road, Clothiers Creek Road and Tweed Valley Way (north). A transfer to Cabarita Beach leaves at Clothiers Creek Road or Cudgera Creek Road, because there are no other exits on that section. Clothiers Creek Road is the inland road linking the interchange to the coast at Bogangar, running through Clothiers Creek and Tanglewood before it meets Tweed Coast Road at Cabarita Beach. If you want a comfort stop on a longer leg, the only signed stopping place on that motorway stretch is the pair of rest areas at Sleepy Hollow, between those two interchanges.
The alternative is the coast road itself, through Chinderah and Casuarina. Worth knowing from 2026 onward: Tweed Shire Council is widening 6.1 km of Tweed Coast Road to four lanes between Morton Street, Chinderah and Grand Parade, Casuarina, an estimated $79 million of roadworks, with the priority stages scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and take about eighteen months. That is live work on one of the two approaches, so we build a buffer into departure transfers.
Why a booked private car suits this trip
Cabarita Beach is small. The Bogangar locality, the same place; the two names are used interchangeably and Bogangar is the postal name, recorded a population of 3,313 at the 2021 Census. It sits 21 km south of Tweed Heads and 48 km north of Byron Bay.
There has been no passenger rail on this coast since the last XPT left Murwillumbah on 15 May 2004; the corridor between Murwillumbah and Crabbes Creek is now the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. The public bus here is Surfside Buslines route 603, listed by Transport for NSW as Pottsville to Tweed Mall via Tweed Valley Hospital, running through Hastings Point, Cabarita Beach and Chinderah, a local coastal service, not an airport connection, and not ours.
That leaves a car you have booked or a car you have not. We would rather you had the first: the flight is tracked, the driver is there before you are, the quoted price holds whether you land early or late, and the car is private and never shared.
Meeting you at the airport
We meet you inside the terminal with a name board. Flights are tracked from departure, so a delay moves your pickup rather than costing you it, at no extra charge. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown, domestic arrivals 45.
One genuine quirk of this run: Gold Coast Airport operates on Queensland time year round, and the terminal is in Queensland while your accommodation is in New South Wales. Through the New South Wales daylight saving months, the two ends of a 24 km drive sit on different clocks. When you book a departure transfer, say which state's clock you mean; we confirm it in writing before the day.
Dropping off in Cabarita Beach
Give us the street address, not just the town. The village's own tourism listing is simply "Tweed Coast Road, Cabarita Beach NSW 2488", which tells you how much of it hangs off one spine road. Addresses sit east of that road, and the last stretch is local streets, we plan for it and allow the time.
A few things that help. If your booking says Bogangar and your friend's says Cabarita Beach, that is one drop off, so do not book two cars. If the address is really in Hastings Point, the next village south, or Casuarina, the next north, say so, separate villages, separate streets. Named destinations we will take you straight to include Halcyon House at 21 Cypress Crescent, the Cabarita Beach Bowls & Sports Club on Cabarita Road, Bogangar, and Tweed Holiday Parks Hastings Point, the council park overlooking the beach and Cudgera Creek. Unit numbers and gate codes belong in the booking notes, not in a phone call at 11pm.
Tweed Shire Council also has overnight restricted zones with no parking between 11pm and 5am in beachside car parks at Cabarita Beach and other coastal villages. That governs where a car may sit, not where it may pull up, one more reason your driver comes to your address at an agreed time.

Is it legal for you to drop off in New South Wales?
Yes. We are Queensland licensed, BHSL 258504, BEA 260412, and a Queensland pickup may drop off in New South Wales. Gold Coast Airport to Cabarita Beach is exactly that. We can also collect you at Cabarita Beach for a flight out of Gold Coast Airport, because that trip ends in Queensland. What we cannot do is a job that both starts and finishes in New South Wales, so we cannot take you Cabarita to Byron Bay.
Can you carry surfboards, prams and golf clubs?
Usually, but tell us before the day. Board bags and golf cases change which car we send far more than passenger numbers do, three adults with three board bags is a seven seater job. Put the item list in the booking notes and we will confirm what fits.
I am flying in for a hospital appointment, where do you drop?
The new Tweed Valley Hospital at 771 Cudgen Road, Cudgen took over all services on 14 May 2024 from the old Tweed Hospital in Powell Street, Tweed Heads. So if you are flying into Gold Coast Airport for an appointment, we drive you from the terminal to Cudgen, not to Powell Street. Give us the appointment time and we will work the pickup back from it.
Can we stop on the way?
On a trip starting at Gold Coast Airport, yes, tell us at booking so the time is in the job. Cudgen Nature Reserve, beside Cudgen Lake, is less than a kilometre west of the village along Clothiers Creek Road; it is always open but can close for flooding or high fire danger, so it is worth checking on the day. Norries Headland Lions Park has ocean views, walking paths north to Cabarita Beach and south to Maggies Beach, barbecues, playgrounds and public facilities with showers, a workable first stop with children if you land before check in. Cabarita Beach was also named Australia's best beach for 2020 by Tourism Australia's beach expert Brad Farmer, so the short version is that you have chosen the right village.
