It is a short run, and that is exactly why it is worth booking properly. Cabarita Beach sits on the Coral Sea coast east of Tweed Coast Road, inside the Tweed Shire town of Bogangar, and Gold Coast Airport's terminal entrance is at Bilinga, just over the Queensland border. Twenty four kilometres, twenty to twenty six minutes in normal conditions, door to terminal.

What it costs

The drive

There are two sensible ways off the Tweed Coast and onto the airport, and the driver picks on the day.

The coastal way is straight up Tweed Coast Road through Casuarina, the next village north of Cabarita, and on toward Chinderah. The inland way uses Clothiers Creek Road, the road in from the motorway that runs through Clothiers Creek and Tanglewood and meets Tweed Coast Road at Cabarita Beach, joining the M1 Pacific Motorway at one of the three interchanges on the Yelgun to Chinderah section, Cudgera Creek Road, Clothiers Creek Road and Tweed Valley Way at the northern end. That stretch of motorway opened on 4 August 2002 and is 28.5 km long. Those interchanges are the only exits along it, which is a useful thing for a driver to know and a terrible thing to discover for the first time with a flight to catch.

One live piece of roadwork is worth planning around. Tweed Shire Council is widening 6.1 km of Tweed Coast Road to four lanes between Morton Street, Chinderah and Grand Parade, Casuarina, an estimated $79 million of work, with the priority stages scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and run for about eighteen months. That is on the exact stretch between you and the airport. We track it and we build the extra minutes into the pickup time rather than hoping.

Why a booked car, on this run in particular

Short does not mean simple. The Bogangar locality recorded 3,313 residents at the 2021 Census, and the Cabarita Beach state suburb itself only 101, this is a village, not a city with cars circling. Everything we run is allocated in advance to a named booking, so the car that arrives is the one assigned to you at whatever hour you asked for.

The alternatives are thinner than people expect. There has been no passenger rail on this coast since the last XPT left Murwillumbah on 15 May 2004, ending 110 years of rail service in the region; the Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek and Casino to Bentley sections were formally closed on 23 September 2020 so the Northern Rivers Rail Trail could be built, so the line is now a shared pathway and is not coming back. Public bus on this part of the coast is Surfside Buslines route 603, listed by Transport for NSW as "Pottsville to Tweed Mall via Tweed Valley Hospital", a local coastal service, not an airport connection.

There is also a clock problem worth naming. Gold Coast Airport operates on Queensland time year round, and its main runway physically crosses the Queensland,New South Wales border. During the New South Wales daylight saving months, the time on the wall in Cabarita is not the time on your boarding pass. We confirm every pickup in airport time, in writing, before the day.

The pickup

Cabarita Beach's own tourism address is simply "Tweed Coast Road, Cabarita Beach NSW 2488", the village runs off one spine road, and your pickup address is somewhere on the seaward side of it. Give us the street number and the property name and we will find you.

A few practical notes:

• If you are staying at Halcyon House, 21 Cypress Crescent, 22 rooms and suites, with Paper Daisy, tell us the room or the reception time and we will arrange the meeting point with the property.
• If your night is finishing at the Cabarita Beach Bowls & Sports Club on Cabarita Road, home to Bistro Luna and the Cheeky Chopstick, that is a straightforward named pickup.
• If your booking says "Cabarita" but the actual address is Tweed Holiday Parks Hastings Point, in the village immediately south, please say so. It is a different pickup point, with 54 tourist sites, 44 tent sites and 5 Surfari tents, and finding the right site number at 4 am is a lot easier when we have it in the booking.
• Bogangar and Cabarita Beach are the same place. Bogangar is the postal name and the two are used interchangeably locally. A booking that says one and an address that says the other is not a problem.

Overnight timing matters too. Tweed Shire Council runs free timed parking in the main business areas of Cabarita, and the beachside car parks carry a no parking restriction between 11 pm and 5 am. For a late arrival home, we plan the meeting point around that rather than assuming a car can sit at the beach.

Families, and the child seats

Every fitted child seat is free on every Unison Transfers job. Not one free and the rest charged, not a per seat charge, not a cap, free, and fitted by the driver before you get in.

Tell us the ages and rough weights when you book and the right restraints are in the car and installed when it pulls up. That is the whole arrangement. It matters most on an early departure, when the alternative is carrying your own seats across an airport and checking them in.

The seven seat Mercedes V Class and Executive Vito Tourer take up to seven passengers with luggage, which is usually the honest answer for two families travelling together. That is the top of our fleet, there is no minibus and no coach behind it.

Coming home

The return leg is the same road in reverse, and it is a Queensland pickup with a New South Wales drop off, which is also fine under our licence.

We track your flight. International arrivals get 60 minutes of free waiting time, domestic 45, measured from touchdown, so a delay on the tarmac is not a delay you pay for. The driver meets you inside the terminal with a name board rather than texting you a car park number.

If you are arriving into the village for the first time: the beach itself was named Australia's best beach for 2020 by Tourism Australia's beach expert Brad Farmer, and the Bogangar,Cabarita National Surfing Reserve, dedicated in March 2013, runs about 2 km from Cabarita Beach around Norries Head to Back Beach South Side. Norries Headland Lions Park at the top has ocean views, walking paths north to Cabarita Beach and south to Maggies Beach, BBQs, playgrounds, picnic tables and public facilities with showers, a reasonable first stop if you have landed early and the room is not ready.

How long does the transfer take?

Twenty to twenty six minutes over 24 km in normal conditions. We add time for early morning departures and for the Tweed Coast Road widening works between Chinderah and Casuarina.

How much is a transfer from Cabarita Beach to Gold Coast Airport?

Do you charge for child seats?

Can you take us from Cabarita Beach to Tweed Valley Hospital, or to Byron Bay?

No. Our licence allows a New South Wales pickup only when the drop off is in Queensland. Tweed Valley Hospital at 771 Cudgen Road, Cudgen is in New South Wales, as are Byron Bay, Cudgen Nature Reserve and Murwillumbah, so those are trips we have to decline. Cabarita Beach to Gold Coast Airport, or to anywhere in Queensland, is fine, and so is the Queensland to Cabarita return.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We track it. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international arrival and 45 minutes after a domestic one, timed from actual touchdown, and the driver meets you inside the terminal with a name board.

Is Bogangar the same as Cabarita Beach?

Yes. Bogangar is the postal name and locals use both; the locality also takes in Cudgen Lake and Norries Headland. Hastings Point is the next village south and Casuarina the next north, if your address is in one of those, say so, because it changes the pickup.
